Cordoba's Cave House

Using the surrounding nature to enhance the beauty of the architecture of this home, the 'casa cueva' by Andres Moreno and Manuel Murillo is literally built into the rock of Spain's Cordoba region. The interior, too, allows the natural rock forms to appear in their natural state unpolished and totally raw, forcing a constant connection between the earth and this home's inhabitants.

The Cuevas del Pino estate, built by Andres Moreno and Manuel Murillo, sits in the foothills of Sierra Morena, in calcarenite stone terrain arranged in slightly sloping strata that gives rise to various geological formations native to the area, among which are the caves that traditionally have been used for farming and livestock.

Historically, the product of these hollows in the rock emerged when livestock watchmen used them as small shelters. Today they have been rehabilitated to form rural housing and accommodate new countryside activities.
