Nature Captured by Christoffer Relander

"For over a year now, I've been collecting landscapes in jars using analog double exposures," says Finnish photographer Christoffer Relander about his latest artwork, 'Jarred & Displaced'. "In this project, I've realized a childish dream. I play with the idea of being an ambitious collector, conserving my environments in a large personal collection." The project consists of a series of mason jars, which display gray scale photography of Finland's countryside. With analog multiple exposures, Relander manipulates the film in camera, rather than by using external software, like Photoshop. The double exposures are then exposed on medium format film, which Relander develops and scans himself.

"Most of the landscapes are from where I grew up," he says, "where my roots still lie. Separation anxiety to my childhood is simply what absorbed me into this project." An ongoing project, the images released thus far is Relander's first installment of 'Jarred & Displaced'.
