Xanadu's Digital Approach

Zanadu is an is an e commerce startup in the premium travel space in China. The company provides a suite of travel services to affluent Chinese travelers. Signature journeys, international luxury vacations, high end cruises, domestic short vacations, private villas and a large selection of the world's best boutique and luxury hotels. Their new offices, designed by Shishang Architecture, are an inspirational, modern design centered on tech.

The brief was complex, the design needed to reflect the young, dynamic nature of Zanadu and take an online brand into an offline space. The clients wanted VR technology at the forefront of the experience and also wanted to showcase their services using touchscreen systems. Exciting and immersive, yet also private, the space was a challenge for the design team. The design language is very much tech driven and the interior is full of digital imagery, clouds hang from the ceiling, cubes are scattered in islands across the interior.

These pixelated designs represent the digital origin of the travel brand, translated into a physical environment. Five digitally stylized balloons are the center piece of the design, inviting visitors to take a seat beneath them and start a virtual journey, and 20 interactive destination cubes were fitted with touchscreen monitors, displaying interactive stories about journeys, products and destinations.
