Contemporary, Urban Life Exemplified by Tom Dixon and IKEA

Tom Dixon recently worked with IKEA, the biggest furniture company in the world, to create a durable, transformable platform for living named Delaktig. A bed, a chase lounge or a sofa, Delaktig is a versatile, contemporary arrangement.

Dixon created a super durable aluminum frame that can be constantly updated or upgraded as its owner's life and needs evolve. At its most basic, Delaktig is a single bed rapidly transformable into a chaise lounge or a three seat sofa by adding additional components.

Contributing to a global community of IKEA hackers that already edit and modify IKEA designs for every day life, Dixon and IKEA see the system as start of something much bigger a kind of ecosystem with unlimited possibilities. Dixon created heavy weight lamps, coffee tables and magazine racks that can be clamped, slotted or bolted on at will, to mutate the sofa into a work or entertainment space.
