An Expandable Space

To design a cottage which is at the same time small and spacious, open and yet safe from intruders, seems to be a daunting task. Architects from the offices of Marek + SikoraArchitektura decided to take up this challenge and the result is Dark House. The form of this summer cottage refers to the popular notion of a typical small house. Four walls, a steeped roof and a chimney bring to mind children's drawings, but the idea is in fact quite unconventional.

Dark House is a house that can literally be closed. The private part of the house, that contains a mezzanine bedroom and a small recreational area, is on rails, thus making it possible to slide it towards the daily living area which features a kitchenette, a fireplace, a bathroom and a storage space.
