Smart Homes are all the Rage Patch Offers a Stylish Approach to this New Concept

Recently presented at Milan's Ventura Future by UM Project, Patch is a microgrid of interconnected furniture which act as mini power stations, distributing solar energy throughout the home. Patch is an optimistic rendering of technology at the intersection of function and fiction, of present and future.

The furniture included in Patch forms a network, small batteries are integrated in each piece in addition to a battery system housed in the bench that serves as a solar panel. The solar energy is distributed throughout the entire interior rather than relying on a central appliance like battery system as is traditionally the case in a home. A variety of functions are made possible: motion, light, sound. The pieces serve and respond to the user's needs and input in simple and inviting ways. Beyond power, the network could be configured and used for data and communication.
