A Chinese Penthouse with Classical Inspiration

Wuhan Greenland Center is a landmark skyscraper in Wuhan city. With a height of 636 meters, it was designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, an American design team famed for world famous super tall buildings, such as the Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai and Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai. The President's Mansion, interior design by CCD / Cheng Chung Design (HK), sits high up in the structure, which integrates five star hotels, high end shopping malls, top grade office buildings and apartments. The overall design is created around the concept of "pavilions and corridors" and employs a wide range of contemporary elements.

Several functional areas like the reception entrance, lounge area, discussion area, art space and passages to the apartments were based on scenes from a classical Oriental courtyard, and together they seem to achieve a distant living situation that evokes classic thoughts of the high mountains and running water.

After passing through the communal areas and heading into the sky, one arrives home. The interior design theme came from the two lines, "It's like the lofty Mount Tai is standing in front of me, and it's like the endless river is flowing in front of me," taken from China's ancient melody "High Mountains and Running Water". The designers borrowed the belief that "talent and ability can rarely be appreciated by others, but Zhong Ziqi understands the meaning of Bo Ya's music, then they became friends," found within the song.

The team took this inspiration and presented a space which is "surrounded by mountains and water", and which through this meaning integrates with the interior. The handling of brightness and openness is also a key factor in this project.
