by Nicholas Hamilton Holmes

The Black Arts Collection is a presentation of new work from Nicholas Hamilton Holmes. The collection evolves a 'tubular' design language where Holmes has bent, shaped and turned wood into various forms and then dyed them all black. The work is blacked out, ebonized and non visible ornamented only by the purity of the form and some light stippling. The use of Brazilian Soapstone, black Danish Cord, Mongolian wool and Brass deepen the works and lighten the mood. The monotone color pallet focuses the viewer's attention on the structural forms as well as exemplifies the designer's control of the wood. Hamilton Holmes is a carpenter and designer and all of his work is produced in studio.

The main themes of Holmes' work are traditional methods, and contemporary style. The combination of time tested techniques like hand cut joinery or proportional design guarantee that all the work meets a standard of quality higher than most other producers.
